Malibu is the longest drive on our list, so we try to put two Malibu visits on one day, one near the beach and one up a canyon. The two ask for different things. A house on the sand gets more time on the cap, the chase cover and any metal the salt has reached. A canyon house gets more time on the spark arrestor screen. The Woolsey Fire burned through much of Malibu in November 2018, and the Palisades Fire reached parts of it in January 2025. If the house is being sold, or rebuilt and sold, the buyer's inspector will look at the cap and arrestor first, so that is where our report starts too.
If You Are Selling
